A month of little music, thanks to a fun combination of Covid, sick Grumpy Metal Kids, and too many meetings at $COMPANY, so fell back onto some old favourites. Hoping for a more musical month next time around!

Wilderun - Epigone

Six months on, and still playing the hell out of this. Not quite as good as Veil of Imagination, but when it hits, man, does it hit hard.

Opeth - Damnation

Cranking out some slightly more relaxed tunes in the sun. The gentler side of their older music still sounds more consistently interesting than their latter era progressive output, at least to these Grumpy Metal Ears.

Porcupine Tree - Deadwing and various others

In anticipation of Closure/Continuation, have revisited some of the older PT output. Having been at the Royal Albert Hall for their last ever gig in 2010, they’d somewhat drifted off my radar, being replaced by Steven Wilson’s mid-solo-output (The Raven That Refused To Sing, Hand.Cannot.Erase, To The Bone). I’d forgotten just how much I love their stuff, and although I still haven’t had a chance to spin the new album on the turntable (thanks SARS-CoV-2!), I am really hoping the new release will stand well alongside their older material.

Neil Young - Dead Man Soundtrack

Slightly odd rediscovery, but bought the soundtrack a very long time ago after watching the movie. While I can’t remember much of the movie, listening to the atmospheric soundtrack proved to be a pleasant way to spend the afternoon trimming the Grumpy Garden.

Ghost - Impera

Yeah, still listening to it, still loving it. Get over it.
